Question 1: I would like to buy a studio condenser microphone. What do I need additionally?

Phantompower: In contrast to dynamic microphones, studio condenser microphones need a power supply for operation. This power supply is called phantompower and is usually delivered by a mixer in sound studios. "True" condenser microphones usually need a phantompower of +48V for best performance.
If you have a mixer, please check if this mixer provides phantompower. DJ-mixer usually donīt support phantompower! Please note that the microphone has to be conntected with a balanced microphone cable (e. g. "Waveelite microphone cable" in our shop) to the mixer.
You can purchase an external phantompower box if you do not have a mixer or your mixer does not support phantompower (e. g. Waveelite PM-1, Waveelite AMPone). You can connect this phantompower box to any recording device by a proper cable. Please notice our special "PC recording kits" with all proper cables for PC connection included.

Anti-popp-Filter: Studio microphones donīt have an integrated windscreen. Consequently, they are more sensitive to disturbing popp and fizzling noises. Therefore, we recommend an anti-popp filter for the recording of voice and singings. Waveelite microphones are delivered with a windscreen. Please consider that a windscreen has also an anti-popp impact but reduces the sound quality noticeably.

Question 2: I would like to connect a microphone to my computer. What do I need additionally?

Please read question 1 if you would like to connect a studio microphone to your computer.
If you would like to connect a dynamic microphone, you need a proper computer cable only (e. g. "Waveelite computer cable" in our shop).

Question 3: I have connected a studio microphone to my computer but I donīt get a signal. What goes wrong?

Please make sure that you have activated the phantompower on your mixer or at the phanompower unit and that the phantompower is conntected to the computer correctly (see also question 1). Please make sure that you have activated the microphone input on your soundcard if the problem still occurs. Therefor, click onto the loudspeaker symbol in the right corner of your task-bar (Microsoft Windows).

Question 4: Can I connect my dynamic microphones to a phantompower unit?

Generally yes. Professional dynamic microphones are balanced microphones. That means that they have a balanced poled XLR-output. No damage will occur if you conntect this microphone with a balanced microphone cable to the phantompower unit.
Attention: Unbalanced microphones (such as microphones with jack outputs) or the usage of unbalanced cables can cause damage both for the microphone and for the phantompower unit!

Question 5: The recording level is too low. What goes wrong?

Usually, microphones do not have an integrated amplifier. Thus, the microphone's signal needs an external amplification for an adequate recording level. Most recording devices provide an integrated microphone preamp (e.g. mixer, soundcards or MD-player). Please check that the preamp is activated at your recording device and a proper amplification level is selected.
Some recording devices (especially older or cheap equipment) do not have adequate amplifiers. So, you will need a microphone preamp if the recording level donīt fit with your expectation. For studio microphones, a preamp with integrated phantompower is reasonable (e. g. Waveelite AMPone).
Recording with an ordinary computer soundcard: Please check that you have selected an adequate microphone input volume. Therefore, click onto the loudspeaker symbol in the right corner of your task-bar (Microsoft Windows). For most soundcards, you can activate a "boost" function to enhance the output level. Please consider the purchase of a microphone preamp (e. g. Waveelite AMPone) if the recording level still remains low or the sound quality is poor.

Question 6: The microphone signal is on one side only (left or right loudspeaker). What goes wrong?

Please note that studio and dynamic microphones are usually mono microphones. So, the signal is on both sides or only on the left or right side of the recorded audio track depending on the used microphones cable. Either you purchase a special mono microphone cable (e. g. "Waveelite microphone cable") or you select "mono" at your recording device. Thus, the recorded signal will occur on both sides.
USB microphones: Please note that USB studio microphones are mono microphones too. Please activate the "mono" recording modus at your recording device and the signal will occur on both sides.

Question 7: When will I receive my order?
